How we write and review
Explaining the Quran is a trust. This is how we try to honour it.
Our sources
- Quran text and translation: Uthmani script and the Saheeh International translation, via Quran.com. Word-by-word meanings and recitation come from the same source.
- Tafsir: classical works including Ibn Kathir, al-Tabari, al-Qurtubi and Ibn ʿAshur, and al-Saʿdi's Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman.
- Hadith: we cite the collection and number, and include the grading. We do not use narrations known to be fabricated.
How review works
- A writer researches and drafts the page from the sources above.
- The draft is published only with a visible label: Draft · awaiting scholar review.
- A qualified reviewer checks every claim, citation and translation. They can approve, or send it back for changes.
- Only approved pages show Reviewed by [name] with the date. You can see who our reviewers are on the reviewers page.
- Pages are re-reviewed whenever they change.
Labels you will see
- Scholar-reviewed: checked and approved by a named reviewer.
- Draft: written carefully from the sources, but not yet reviewed.
- Personal reflection: written by a community member, about what an ayah means to them. It is not an explanation of the ayah.
What we will never do
- Issue fatwas or personal religious rulings.
- Publish AI-generated explanations. Technology may help us research, but people write and scholars review.
- Attack other Muslims or schools of thought.
- Run ads or put the Quran behind a paywall.
Found a mistake? Please tell us. Correcting an error about the Quran matters more to us than anything else on this site.
